Cinco Week with Margaritas

MargaritasMay is the best month, if you ask me. The icy part of spring significantly subsides, patios start opening, and layers get lighter. Plus, the month kicks off with a flood of Justin Timberlake memes.

The beginning of May also includes an amazing holiday: Cinco de Mayo. The day commemorates Mexican army’s unlikely victory at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. It’s a great time to celebrate Mexican culture aka stuff your face with delicious food and dance to sweet tunes.

You don’t have to wait until May 5th to celebrate. Margaritas Restaurant is hosting Cinco Week at all of their locations, which starts today! Each day has its own special focus and there are opportunities to win prizes- the largest of which is a trip for two to Mexico!

I love a good margarita, and if you’re in this camp too, I have two recommendations for your drink order at Margaritas. There are a ton of flavors, but no matter which you pick, you should go “naked.” It has nothing to do with clothes and everything to do with using freshly-squeezed lime juice. The upgrade is worth it. My second tip would be to ask for the jalapeno tequila.  It gives the drink a little kick, but it doesn’t overwhelm your mouth.

If you prefer a sweeter note to your drinks, you can mimic two of their April drink specials (which are not there anymore, so I won’t taunt you with details) by asking for a margarita or a mule to be made with 1800 Coconut tequila.

The restaurant brings you chips and salsa to enjoy while you peruse the menu, but I can’t say no to ordering guacamole or queso.

I really have no recommendation for entrees, because there is no way to go wrong. I’m a vegetarian, and had zero issues finding something meat-free. There is a special vegetarian section on the menu, but a lot of the entrees in different could easily be made without meat.

Dinner Pies: A Cookbook Review

Growing up, one of my favorite dinners was Hamburger Pie. My dad would make it almost every time my mom was out for the evening- she hated it but my brother, dad, and I loved it. I didn’t know anyone else who ate something like this, and thought it was something my genius father made up.

Despite this early introduction to a dinner pie, when I think of pies, my first association is not a meal.
