Gift of the Day: Something to Read

Books are amazing gifts because there is literally something for everyone. Here are some great titles for gifting. (Bonus points if you find a independently-owned bookstore to buy these at. My favorite choices around Boston are Brookline Booksmith and the Brattle Bookshop.)

Best Sellers

Give the reader in your family some new water-cooler chatter with the newest/hottest titles. My eye is on the new book from Ron Chernow (yeah, the guy whose previous book inspired Lin Manuel Miranda to write Hamilton) that focuses on Ulysses S. Grant.

New Edition of an Old Favorite

they have a favorite book? Try finding a different edition of it! This edition of Alice in Wonderland was illustrated by Salvador Dali, and I’m totally adding it to my own personal wish-list.

Coffee Table Book

This was my favorite category to make picks for. There are so many good ones that I was making googly-eyes at!

Cookbook

I should have eaten lunch before looking at these! I added some of my favs (Deb Perelman can do no wrong, and I’ve been cooking my way through Sara Forte’s newest book), as well as a few that I’ve had my eye on (hello, Cherry Bombe). This category is for all of the people who love to play in the kitchen!

Gift of the Day: Something to Play

Get off that phone, and play something IRL with a group of friends. It’s not something that I would buy for myself, mostly because I don’t think about it until I’m itching for something interactive to do. Games are fairly inexpensive, with many clocking in under $20 for a game. You can even bundle a few together for a fun “game night” themed gift.

Classic games

The ones you grew up with, the ones that everyone knows – and probably the ones that are well-worn and sitting at your parent’s house!

Silly/new games

Some of these sound hilarious. Mix up the usual lineup with a couple of these options.

Card games

Cards are an endless source of entertainment, if you know how to play. My suggestion would be to gift a beautiful deck of cards with a book on card games so the recipient can learn a few new ones and brush up on old favorites.

Beautifully crafted game

If the gift recipient is a huge fan of a particular game, what about a gorgeous version of this game?

Gift Guides for 2017

gift guides 2017 holiday shopping ideas

It’s that time of the year – gift guide season. I love looking at gift guides. They can be repetitive, with the same gift showing up all over the place, but every now and again something truly original pops up.

This year, I’ll be doing something a little bit different with my gift guides. Instead of categorizing them into type of people who will like it, I’ll be focusing on a type of gift. Likely, you already know what type of gift you want to give someone. This type of organization will hopefully help to steer you in the right direction!

If there’s any post to bookmark, it’ll be this one. As I add a new gift guide, I’ll add a link here. Let me know if there’s a type of gift you’re looking for. I would love to help you find that perfect something!
