A Non Cheesy Valentine’s Day: Part I

For a long time, I thought that I didn’t like Valentine’s Day. It’s not that I’m a love-Scrooge. I love the opportunity to tell my family and friends how much they mean to me! The overload sickly-sweet generic thoughtless junk is what I actually don’t like. Turning something pink or red or making it heart-shaped or adding heart icons on something does not make it thoughtful or meaningful (although it can be darn cute).

Instead of cramming into a restaurant for a romance-themed dinner with everyone else, here are a few creative ideas to surprise your special someone with. Tailor as needed, since there is no such thing as one-size-fits-all.

A card really can be enough! If you’re going this route, remember that it has to be a gooooood card. No CVS card aisle on February 13th. Find a card that really reflects your relationship! Do you binge watch tv series with your person? Are you with someone who appreciates the true shape of a heart? Add a well-written note inside, and you’re golden.
