Four More Weeks

snowshoe winter lulu & georgia diy craft netflix house of cards baggy blanket getaway

There are exactly four weeks until the first official day of spring. A lot of people are waving the white flag at winter, hoping that it accepts surrender and retreats. After the unexpectedly high snowfall on Tuesday (and a few additional inches yesterday), I was really surprised at how much I welcomed it. It was just so beautiful! Spring will be here before we know it, so let’s enjoy the benefits of winter while it’s still here.

1 and 2. House of Cards, Season 2 was posted to Netflix on February 14th. If you haven’t already binge-watched it, I recommend checking it out! Pick up a new throw in bright colors (a hint of summer) from Lulu & Georgia, and snuggle in on the couch. (I feel guilty watching hours of TV during the summer!)

3. Winter is a great time for weekend getaways. Lots of places- especially in summer destination towns- have great off-season discounts. Throw some weekend essentials in this Baggu tote and hit the road.

4. There’s tons of snow, but temperatures aren’t too brutal. It’s great combination for doing outdoor activities. I find snowshoeing particularly romantic (who knows) and I love the look of this traditional style shoe from Faber & Co.

5 and 6. Use this time to start working on your summer accessories! Nothing says summer more than a stack of friendship bracelets. SwellMayde and Honestly WTF are two incredible blogs that have a crazy amount of DIYs to check out.

Spring is right around the corner, and until then, don’t just survive. Thrive!

Cabin Fever

Travel

Winter, we’re breaking up.

The dry air is finally taking it’s toll. I have a crack on the side of my hand, and woke up to a bleeding split lip. Most mornings, I don’t feel as if I’m going to work but rather, going into battle, adding layer upon layer until I’m sure the cold can’t get through (I’m typically wrong).

I’m dreaming of a getaway that doesn’t include Thinsulate-lined anything in my suitcase.

  1. I love vacations that have a ton of physical activity. Our last trip included snorkeling, kayaking, and sailing.
  2. Have cabin fever but don’t have a lot of time to get away? Check out this book, which has 150 weekend getaways. We’ve referenced it before a few recent trips, and it pointed us to some awesome spots.
  3. Part of why I love lots of physical activity on vacations is because I love to eat on vacations. I research where I want to eat first, and plan the rest around that. This book has recommendations from 400 of the world’s top chefs, and there’s an app so you can have the guide on-the-go.
  4. I keep my toiletries to a minimum when traveling. I typically use a Ziplock sandwich baggie to hold my liquids, but this pink Truffle bag is a more attractive option. It’s TSA approved for your carry-on, but would be equally as helpful holding ear buds, lip gloss, and all those little things that get scattered around your bag.
  5. A lightweight waterproof map that’s meant to be crumpled? Yes please.
  6. My carry-on, purchased in Chinatown for twenty bucks when my shoulder was tired of hauling my weekender, has finally bit the dust. This bronze one is attractive, durable, and reasonably priced!

Do you have a vacation planned? Tell me, tell me! I want to live vicariously through you.

Valentine’s Day Prep

I dislike Valentine’s Day. It’s an exclusionary holiday, no matter your circumstances. When you’re single, you feel like you’ve accidentally stumbled into a rom-com montage scene.  If you’re with someone, there’s an expectation of some grand gesture even after you’ve said how you don’t want anything/aren’t expecting anything.

It’s a holiday that lets you down for no reason.

Instead of joining the masses and going out for dinner, we are staying in. I love dining out, but would rather go when we can linger over our meal without worrying about the next set of love-birds hungrily waiting for our table.

1. Homebodies, unite!

2. Festive PJ pants. Add saucy underthings at your own risk.

3. Wine ice cream because duh.

4 and 5. Don’t forget about your girlfriends! Add a pretty bow to these notepads and pencils for cute Valentines.

Light My Fire

I love candles. I was a die-hard Yankee Candle fan for a long time. My favorite scent, Sunwashed Linen, was discontinued a few years ago and my stash has finally run out. (Yes, my stockpile lasted few years. I take my hoarding seriously!)

Since being forced from a tried-and-true favorite, I’ve found a few that are so pretty, it’s hard not to be excited about them.

1. Maybe I’ve seen too many white candles in my life, but I’m really drawn to black candles lately.

2. I don’t even care how this Tom Dixon candle smells! With the brass container and marble lid, it would be a beautiful addition to any surface. (It has a lovely florally/herbal smell, fwiw.)

3. The polka dots and typography had me at hello.

4. Another black candle! The lavender scent is calming and it’s made locally (Salem, MA).

Desk Daze

Bring these things items to work for a brighter day

Bring these things items to work for a brighter day

Winter can be a little… grey (not that I have anything against the color- take a look in my closet if you have any doubts!). When 3pm rolls around, you may be happy that you added a few punches of color to your work space.

1. You’ll be hard-pressed to forget your lunch on the counter in the morning when it’s packed in a bright green bento box.

2. Info won’t be lost on your desk when stuffed inside these geometric file folders.

3. I’m trying to cut back on my Starbucks runs (not hard when it’s so cold outside). A fun mug perks up tea time.

4. Corral paper clips, rubber bands, and other tidbits in this trio of trinket dishes.
